Handover imminent for Caerphilly hospital
CONTRACTOR BAM hands over the new £172m Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (Caerphilly Local General Hospital) to the Aneurin Bevan Health Board this month.
Designed by Nightingale Associates, the Hospital covers 31,000sqm and has 265 beds. “The healing environment is on the outside as well as the inside of the building,” says project manager Andy Cavil. “The car park is underneath so when patients look out of the extensive glazing, it’s not a sea of cars.”
The upper ground floor accommodates the local emergency centre, outpatients, women’s and children’s unit, health maintenance / therapies and the mental health unit. The first floor comprises the diagnostic and treatment centre including short stay wards and an endoscopy suite, and medical wards for stroke, rehabilitation and sub-acute care.
