£25m radiotherapy centre for Colchester
A £25M ultra modern radiotherapy centre is to be built at Colchester General Hospital by Interserve as part of a ProCure21+ scheme.
The new building will replace the current radiotherapy centre at Essex County Hospital, and will incorporate five ‘bunkers’. Initially, three new linear accelerators will be installed and the remaining two bunkers will be fitted out later, as demand is expected to rise in the future.
Interserve and Devereux Architects, along with clinical staff and users have all played a role in designing the new radiotherapy centre, which will provide a centre of excellence for cancer treatment. The new building is expected to be completed before the end of next year and will start treating its first patients in early 2014.
