New emergency care centre for Aberdeen
A £110M emergency care centre in Aberdeen is to bring new health services to people living in Grampian and the surrounding areas.
Located at Foresterhill, the new facilities will bring emergency and unscheduled care services under one roof and provide 350 inpatient beds to replace accommodation at Aberdeen Royal infirmary.
The hospital building, which has ten floors - eight of which will accommodate clinical services - will be fully operational to staff and patients by next month. The final stage of the project, which involves the demolition of the existing A&E department and the construction of a new entrance foyer, will begin in January.
The three-year construction project was delivered by Robertson who will now lead on the redevelopment of two adjacent hospital buildings, which currently occupy inpatient facilities and operating theatres. This new £21m scheme is due for completion in August 2014.
