Vanguard complex goes live in Caribbean following devastating fire

Following a catastrophic fire in one of the major acute hospitals on the island, the first patients have now been treated in a unique Vanguard Healthcare Solutions mobile complex on the island of Guadeloupe.

The project has required a collaborative effort from not just Vanguard but also the company’s international partners. Organisations from the Netherlands, the UK, France and local Caribbean islands have pulled together to create a new interim facility, which is providing vital surgical care while the severely damaged hospital is restored. Despite the challenges of logistics, environment and unfamiliar commissioning standards, the temporary complex has now reached operational status.

The clinical lead on the project confirmed,

“All the clinical staff were delighted and many made an effort to find me and tell me they were all very happy to work within the mobile complex.”

In the first of the operating theatres, one patient received an ablation procedure to assist with difficulties relating to varicose veins. Another patient had screws and plates fitted to support a fractured femur, while in the second operating theatre, a hernia repair procedure was successfully completed.

This marks the handover of this remarkable facility to the clinicians from the hospital, providing them with a safe, compliant workplace and their patients with access to top-quality care while their hospital is rebuilt.
