Frontline staff in hospitals and care homes look set to benefit from a further layer of protection against infection.
Hospital trusts are planning living pods for doctors and other healthcare staff, fitted out with storage solutions that can help shield them from harmful pathogens such as Covid-19.
Care home managers meanwhile are raising infection control measures for staff by specifying purpose-built changing facilities housed in mobile and permanent structures.
In the wake of the Government allotting more than £500m to help care homes across the country protect themselves against Covid-19, managers are seeking out products that help lower infection risk.
Made in Britain, FSC-certified storage specialists Crown Sports Lockers has launched its Healthcare range of changing room provision to meet urgent demand for hygienically safe facilities.
Under its Stay Clean, Stay Safe programme, bespoke manufacturer Crown are supplying lockers fabricated from 18mm EcoPlastic recycled PVC board, independently tested to ISO standards, with surfaces proven to inhibit pathogen growth with a 99.99% efficiency kill rate.
Stay Clean, Stay Safe solutions include integrated Biomaster inorganic, non-leaching technology that will never wear off, remaining permanently active to provide antibacterial and antiviral protection throughout lifetime of use.
Crown’s hygienic range offers a safer, flexible solution for applications in hygiene-sensitive environments. Curves, profiles and right angles are all possible without compromising the board’s surface integrity.
Angled locker tops also ease cleaning and ensure unwanted build-up of objects, debris and dust particles.
Homogeneous, with a closed cell PVC foam core and solid PVC surface, the board used is non-toxic, formaldehyde-free and non-porous. All lockers are manufactured by Crown in their UK factory.
Purchasing and facilities managers are acting to ensure care home and hospital staff can change into workwear before entering sensitive areas, using facilities that heighten infection resistance.
Several care homes have already specified Crown clothes lockers in the Healthcare range so staff can store casual clothing while on duty, before changing back into them after leaving.
Those now being delivered include lockers featuring crisp white doors, fitted with hasp locks, edged in 2mm warm grey ABS and fabricated with sloping tops.
With similar characteristics, density and weight to MDF, the board is processed using the same techniques - machined, cut CNCd, routed, profiled and edged identically to MDF.
Unlike MDF however, the board is 100% waterproof, offers zero swelling and 2.5 times the screw retention, making it fully suited to tough, healthcare environments.
Presented with a smooth surface, the board prevents viruses and bacteria proliferating, research proves. Today’s more frequent and intense sanitising regimes demand materials that can withstand rigorous daily cleaning and heavy-duty usage without any rise in risk of contamination from pathogenic bacteria such as MRSA, E-coli, legionella, listeria, salmonella and viruses.
Doors fitted with the waterproof carcasses can be fabricated from real timber or a choice of compact or high-pressure laminates, with 2mm ABS edging, personalised in woodgrain or colours. Locker carcasses can be recycled at end of life, says Crown, which is FSC-certified.
For wet environments, where real timber doors are lacquered (Crown Sports Lockers run their own lacquering line at their factory) Medicote A/C antimicrobial lacquer is used as standard.
