Modern methods of construction (MMC) healthcare specialist, MTX, has won a multi-million-pound contract to deliver the new Dame Clare Marx Building at Colchester Hospital.

With long patient wait times, which were apparent even before the COVID-19 pandemic, and growing demand and pressure on the NHS, there was a need for further operating facilities at the hospital.

The new three-storey modular building will house the orthopaedic centre for the East Suffolk and North Essex area.

Once complete, it will include six theatres, space for up to 72 beds, and all the necessary ancillary spaces, including a reception and waiting area.

David Hartley, managing director at MTX, said: “As all the recent news has suggested, waiting times are a real pressure point for the NHS at the moment.

“This has only been exacerbated with the pandemic and, more than ever, it’s shone a light on the benefits of MMC solutions – particularly the quicker speed of delivery.

“We’re excited to be working with the team on this new project and can’t wait to see it come to life and provide the end users with a real tangible benefit.”
