Work begins to centralise and modernise mental health services in south London

Construction work starts on new Douglas Bennett House

Work has started on a new 10,000sq m mental health facility in London.

Designed by IBI Group and developed over many years following input and feedback from staff, service users, carers and regulators, the £50m Douglas Bennett House project at Denmark Hillwill enable South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to centralise its mental health services in one location.

With the effective treatment of mental health being central to the design, the new facility will provide greater privacy for patients through single-sex wards, en-suite bathrooms, balconies and outdoor space, family rooms, and a multi-faith suite.

The project is being delivered under the ProCure 21+ framework by Integrated Health Projects (IHP), a joint venture between VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine.

It is due for completion in September 2022.
