Care home invests in dementia suite

A £500,000 investment has helped to create a dementia[1]friendly suite at Belmont House care home in Harrogate, north Yorkshire.

Operated by Maria Mallaband Care, the Springwater Unit will house up to 14 people with dementia and it has been designed to support independent living.

It includes an open and safe ‘lifestyle’ kitchenette extending into a café, as well as a spa-themed bathing room offering hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, and Croma therapy.

The reception and lounge area have also been opened, creating a new welcome desk and coffee bar.

Carefully chosen artwork is on display in the corridors and communal areas, reflecting the history of the local area, and there are bespoke reminiscence areas featuring the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, Farrah’s Confectioners, Harrogate Spa, Harrogate Theatre Royal, Yorkshire sports people, and the Royal Family.

Marsha Tuffin, head of dementia innovation at the home, said: “Our vision for the Belmont House Springwater Dementia Suite is simply to enable people to live a good quality of life within a supportive, thriving community.”
