Patients, staff, and visitors are set to benefit after work began on a new roof terrace at Withybush Hospital in Pembrokeshire.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts and generosity of the local community through Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal, work to develop the new facility outside Ward 10 began recently.

This outdoor space will enhance the experience and wellbeing of patients and staff on the ward, who will be able to benefit from fresh air and being outdoors.

Dr Andrew Burns, hospital director, said: “We’re excited to see the work begin on the roof terrace.

“We anticipate the work being completed this coming autumn. “It’s going to be a wonderful addition to the ward, which patients and staff will benefit from.”

As well as the new roof terrace, Ward 10 has been extensively refurbished, including making it more dementia friendly and supporting those with bariatric requirements.

The overall ward development scheme, mainly funded by the Welsh Government, also benefited from more than £500,000 of charitable donations from the health board’s Pembrokeshire Cancer Services Fund, Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal, and significant donations from the late Luke Harding and his family.
